More than 7,000 battery-powered chainsaws have been recalled in the US because they pose fire and burn hazards.
DR Power Equipment recalled about 7,180 of its lithium-ion battery-powered chainsaws on Thursday after receiving ’20 reports of incidents of fire, sparks and/or smoke’, according to an independent federal regulatory agency protecting people from injury from consumer products.
No injuries related to the chainsaws have been reported, stated the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The chainsaws have a black handle and orange buttons, and a label with DR Pulse 62V printed on it.
Models are the recall are 414170, 414181, 41418 and 414170R. The model and serial number are found on a white label on the right side of the chainsaw handle.
The tools were sold at independent power equipment stores across the country and on the company’s website from June 2018 to July 2024. They were priced from $200 to $350.
Customers should stop using the chainsaws immediately and reach out to DR Power for a refund.
The company is offering pro-rated refunds for the chainsaws based on their age. Customers must destroy the chainsaw following the company’s directions in order to be eligible for some money back.
‘Consumers will need to show proof of the chainsaw’s destruction by uploading a photograph in accordance with the destruction instructions and filling out the recall form online,’ states the announcement.
Those who decide to throw away the tool instead should recycle the lithium-ion battery following local and state rules.
