The Department of Homeland Security blasted a report from the Daily Mail earlier today that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem had formally backed a new reality competition proposal that would have migrants compete for U.S. citizenship. However, that doesn't mean it's out of the question. The department is reportedly considering backing the series, with Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, who called the Daily Mail's story "an affront to journalism," saying, according to The Wall Street Journal, that it's "in the very beginning stages of that vetting process." McLaughlin also confirmed that she had spoken to producer Rob Worsoff about the pitch and that it would have to go through the department's extensive vetting process before anything could move forward.
