UK neighbourhood named one of the world’s coolest to get new £100million train station

AN overlooked city neighbourhood previously named one of the trendiest in the world has been given the go-ahead for a new train station.

Liverpool‘s Baltic Triangle was named one of the coolest places in the world by Time Out back in 2023.

Coming in 11th place, it was the highest ranked neighbourhood in the UK, and even named one of the coolest places to live by the Telegraph.

And a new £100million train station is finally set to open.

First announced back in 2022, Liverpool Baltic station will connect both locals and tourists to the region.

Trains will operate on the Merseyrail’s Northern Line, which runs from Southport to Hunts Cross.

However, the new station will allow passengers to connect to other train stations easier, offering wider travel across the country.

Works on the station hope to start early next year, and be finished by the end of 2027.

Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region said: “For decades there were no new stations built on our network, so this is another major milestone in the development of the expansion of rail services in our region.

“Investing almost £100 million at the heart of one of the UK’s most vibrant areas, will help to make this part of the city more accessible to all while easing congestion and helping us achieve our net-zero targets.”

The Baltic Triangle area has also been compared to New York, with red brick warehouses and a huge art scene.

One of the most famous murals is the one of Jurgen Klopp, created by street artist Paul Curtis.

There is also Cains Brewery Village, home to food and drink stalls as well as shops along with a BOXPARK.

And up-coming events include live music with James Arthur, beer bike tours and art classes.

Make the most of the evening there too, with nightclub 24 Kitchen Street as well as Bongos Bingo.

Need to stay the night? There is both a Hilton and Ibis hotel to choose from as well as The Baltic Hotel.

Elsewhere in the UK, the busiest train station is getting a massive upgrade.

London Liverpool Street was forced to scrap its previous £1.5billion plans which included a rooftop swimming pool.

The new plans include adding new “landmark” entrances as well as more escalators and ticket barriers.

And Salford Central is reopening after a two month closure and a £10million makeover.

A new roof, wider platforms and revamped ticket office were part of the improvement.

And a new £160million train station will be the “first of its kind” in the UK.
