On Friday night, President Donald Trump issued a memo that nullified the security clearances and access to classified information for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and several other individuals.
The executive memo states, “I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information. I hereby direct every executive department and agency head to take all necessary actions, as consistent with existing law, to revoke any active security clearances held by the aforementioned individuals and to immediately rescind their access to classified information.”
Representatives for both Harris and Clinton did not provide a comment request in response to inquiries made on Friday night.
Additionally, the memo declares that the individuals named—totaling 15—will not have access to classified briefings and will require an escort to access secure U.S. government facilities.
Other individuals mentioned in the directive are former Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former national security adviser Jake Sullivan, and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The directive also extends to any members of the Biden family.
Many of those listed in Trump’s memo had their security clearances revoked earlier this month by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
In 2018, the State Department noted that Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, had requested her security clearance to be withdrawn that year. It remains unclear if her clearance was subsequently reinstated.
In February, Trump announced the termination of former President Joe Biden’s access to intelligence information.
Earlier this week, Trump declared that he was ending Secret Service protection for Biden’s two adult children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.
One of Trump’s first actions in January was to rescind the security clearances of at least 50 former intelligence officials who had signed a letter during the 2020 campaign, which suggested that the contents of a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden showed “classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”
