Tom Holland Reveals Heartfelt Inspiration Behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day Suit

Tom Holland discussed the design of his new Spider-Man suit in Brand New Day. In a recent interview, he explained how elements from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s costumes influenced the look. The comments come as filming continues on the upcoming MCU installment, set for release in July 2026.

Tom Holland said Maguire and Garfield’s suits inspired his Brand New Day costume. Speaking with Complex, Holland explained, “I really like the idea that he’s trying to be his big brothers, that he looks up to them and he sees little details on their suits that he thinks are really cool, and now that he is making his own suit and isn’t part of this bigger team.”

Holland said this chapter marks a shift for Peter Parker, “It really feels like we aren’t making the fourth movie. We’re making the first movie in the next chapter. This is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, this is a rebirth, this is something completely new.” The suit blends Maguire’s raised webbing with Garfield’s design touches.

During the discussion, Holland noted, “I’m really glad that people are picking up on the homage to Tobey and Andrew’s suit.” He reflected on the difference compared to No Way Home, saying, “I think the third movie was very much about paying respects to those guys… I really like the idea that he’s trying to be his big brothers.”

Holland said the suit was redesigned for comfort and performance. “This is a lot comfier than anything I’ve worn in the past. The new suit is really designed in a completely different way to the previous iterations. It’s a lot more flexible, so we can kind of lean into different sides of the character that I haven’t been able to before. And I am absolutely over the moon with how it’s photographing.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases on July 31, 2026 and is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
