Production has briefly been shut down on the set of the new Spider-Man film, after leading man Tom Holland suffered an injury during filming.

Last week, The Sun reported that Tom had been shooting at a studio in Watford, when he fell during a stunt and hit his head.

Various US outlets, including Deadline, later reported that filming shut down on Friday while Tom was treated for “mild concussion”.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman told The Sun: “We were called at 10.30am on Friday to attend to a patient who had sustained an injury at Leavesden Studios in Watford.”

They added: “An ambulance was sent to the scene, and the patient was transported to hospital for further care.”

Deadline’s undisclosed “sources” added that “no one else was affected during the incident”, with meetings seemingly taking place on Monday to determine next steps in terms of filming.

HuffPost UK has contacted Tom Holland’s team for comment.

Filming on the upcoming Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, began last month, shortly after Tom and his co-star fiancée Zendaya also completed work on Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey.

Brand New Day marks Tom’s eighth time playing Spider-Man on the big screen, and fourth outing as Peter Parker in a stand-alone film.

He last played the iconic Marvel superhero in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, a production which was forced to introduce a number of innovative measures because of the Covid pandemic.

Because his last time filming Spider-Man relied so heavily on sound stages, Tom had previously spoken about how excited he was to be shooting on location again.

“We’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations,” he enthused (as reported by Deadline), claiming: “It’s gonna feel like making Spider-Man 1 again.

“It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated for release in 2026.
