Tom Holland has revealed that he was set to host Saturday Night Live. A last-minute cancellation gave him relief for a hilarious reason. The actor offered to host SNL as part of his ongoing promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Since SNL is on its summer break, Holland missed out on hosting the sketch-comedy show.
While fans may be disappointed to miss out on Holland’s SNL debut, the Spider-Man actor said he actually felt relieved not to appear in it. Holland recalled the anecdote while appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers earlier this week.
Why Tom Holland felt relieved he didn’t have to host SNL
Earlier this year, Holland had revealed that he turned down hosting SNL in the past for one reason: he is “heavily dyslexic”, which would hinder his ability to read cue cards in front of a live audience. Speaking with Myer, Holland said, “There’s something about reading out loud that would just stress me out.”
Holland recalled telling Sony Pictures’ marketing team he was ready to get over the particular fear by hosting SNL. “…I said, ‘I’m ready to host ‘SNL.” And then, they were like, ‘They’re dark during the summer.’ I was like, ‘Oh, thank God!’”
It remains to be seen when and where Holland will host SNL in the future. Neither Holland nor his wife Zendaya have hosted the comedy show.
