Everyone dreams of leaving their mark in history, but not all records are worth celebrating—some can even be a source of shame. We’re talking about UFC heavyweight interim champion Tom Aspinall’s recent record, which he achieved thanks to Dana White & Co., and UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Aspinall recently surpassed a milestone set by former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao 11 years ago, by holding the UFC interim title for the longest-reigning interim champion in UFC history, at 534 days. However, this is not a record Aspinall is proud of, and he’s well aware of that.

In his latest YouTube video, while hanging out with the flyweight GOAT, Demetrious Johnson, Aspinall was asked, “You are now the longest reigning interim champion.” In response, Tom rejected any recognition of the achievement and voiced his true feelings. “Yeah, this is bulls–t. That is not something that I wanted. No, it’s not something that I’m proud of, to be honest. The interim title is nice, but the longest reigning one… I obviously wanted to contend for the undisputed title. In the time that I’ve been interim, so it’s coming. It’s coming. It’s coming.”

Tom Aspinall on becoming the longest reigning interim champion in UFC history:

“That is bullsh*t. That’s not something that I wanted. I’m not proud of that one.”
