Tokenized Stocks Expand to Self-Custody as Kraken Partners With Trust Wallet

The rollout means Trust Wallet holders can gain exposure to more than 60 tokenized shares, purchasing and storing them just as they would stablecoins or tokens. Support spans multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Tron, and BNB Chain, and deposits can be made in local fiat currencies. Kraken says this turns a self-custody wallet into a gateway for assets that traditionally sat far outside crypto rails.

Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi framed the integration as a step toward borderless capital markets, while Trust Wallet’s Eowyn Chen called it a bridge between Web3 and Wall Street. Backed co-founder Adam Levi highlighted the cross-chain functionality as a public good.

A Reality Check: Regulation

But access won’t be as universal as the marketing suggests. Securities laws still govern tokenized shares, and regulators demand KYC compliance and investor protections. That means users in major markets like the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia will not be eligible. Industry experts note that tokenized equities may run on blockchains, but they do not share crypto’s regulatory freedom.

Even within these constraints, demand is evident. Kraken disclosed that xStocks have already notched more than $4 billion in trading volume since their launch. The exchange has extended support to EU-based customers and plans to expand further, though every rollout will depend on local compliance rules.

Why It Matters

The integration underscores how tokenization is moving beyond pilot projects into widely used crypto infrastructure. For Kraken, it positions the exchange as a leader in bridging traditional securities with digital markets. For Trust Wallet, it brings an additional layer of utility to a massive user base accustomed to self-custody.

Still, the tension between borderless technology and localized regulation looms large. The success of tokenized equities may depend less on demand — which appears strong — and more on how quickly global rules adapt to this new class of assets.
