In a twist that feels straight out of a movie, Timothée Chalamet showed up at his own lookalike contest in New York City on Sunday (Oct. 27, 2024). The event started as a fun idea and quickly became a whirlwind of excitement and chaos.
Picture this: a sea of Timothées, each dressed as one of his iconic characters. Willy Wonkas and Paul Atreides from Dune were there as far as the eye could see. Amidst this surreal scene, the real Chalamet appeared, surrounded by bodyguards, taking photos with his doppelgängers. It was like a hall of mirrors come to life!
The contest, advertised on flyers around the city, was part of a series of lookalike events organized by YouTuber Anthony Po. With a $50 prize up for grabs, contestants were quizzed on their plans with Kylie Jenner (Chalamet's rumored girlfriend) and their French skills – a nod to the actor's bilingual talents. Ultimately, Miles Mitchell decked out as Willy Wonka snagged the top spot.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing. The event drew thousands, leading to some tense moments. Police had to step in at Washington Square Park, dispersing crowds and fining organizers for an “unpermitted costume contest.” One contestant even ended up in handcuffs!
Paige Nguyen, Po's producer, summed it up perfectly: “What started off as a silly joke” had “turned pandemonium.”
Meanwhile, Chalamet's been busy filming Marty Supreme in the Big Apple. This hush-hush American sports drama, directed by Josh Safdie, boasts a star-studded cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, and Fran Drescher.
