For generations, fans have adored the action from the hit Tom Cruise film Top Gun. So much so, it spawned a wildly successful sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. However, now fans are given the chance to truly learn about the lives of student fighter jet pilots in National Geographic's Top Guns: The Next Generation. The new six-part docuseries showcases the real-life journey aspiring fighter pilot students in the Navy and Marines go through to earn their wings. In the films, this journey is told through a male perspective. Here, the series transcends traditional gender lines and showcases two extraordinary women on their path to becoming pilots.
