You know you’re an adult when you start caring about your electric toothbrush. Admittedly, until now I’ve only seen my toothbrush as a tool to get a very boring, but necessary, task done.
For the last three years, I’ve been using the same toothbrush I got on sale at Boots, without thinking too critically about it.
Recently, I realised it’s not performing quite as well as it once did. I’ve been dragging my feet to buy a new one because I can’t stop thinking about how long it’s going to take for the plastic to biodegrade in a landfill when I throw it away.
But really, at what cost to my teeth? As someone who hates going to the dentist, I should be doing everything I can to make sure I don’t have to go back more as I get older.
So I started to get curious about what else is out there on the toothbrush horizon. As it turns out, SURI, the brand that has probably been splashed all over your social media for the last few years, has a new release: the SURI 2.0.
It comes in a range of fun colours, including blue, red, black, white, and peach green, and Amazon claims it’s the number one bestselling toothbrush on its site, so my curiosity was piqued.
How good could a toothbrush really be, I thought. They all do the same thing, and I’ve never had a problem with the spinning head on my tried and trusted Oral B.
When my SURI 2.0 arrived in the post, I could see how wrong I was. Instead of the classic whirring bristles, the SURI has a head just like a regular manual toothbush.
While other toothbrushes I’ve used leave my hand feeling numb from all the vibrations, this one comes with a robust aluminium body that easily absorbs the feeling of the sonic vibrations.
I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ve splashed toothpaste in my eye many a time when taking my toothbrush out of my mouth to spit while it’s still on.
After two weeks of testing SURI, I’ve never had that problem. The entire thing buzzes with more of an incandescence than a jackhammer, and you can take the head out of your mouth without worrying about splashing or an excess of annoying noise.
As for the way it cleans, it leaves my teeth feeling cleaner after two minutes than it does after 10 with my old toothbrush.
I was hesitant about whether the gentler buzzing on the SURI 2.0 would feel like it was doing anything, but I now believe its claim that it removes five times more plaque than a manual toothbrush.
Because SURI clearly believes in its power so much, the toothbrush will automatically stop after two minutes.
It’s so effective that dentists have signed off on the fact it results in 100% healthier gums after two weeks thanks to using haptic sensor technology, meaning it adjusts its speed when it senses you’re brushing your teeth too aggressively. This all in the name of preventing receding gum lines.
What’s more, the head is made of plant-based materials, so it’ll biodegrade when you need to replace it in three months.
Even my concerns that I’d brushed off as unimportant about my previous toothbrush getting dirty in my washbag were quelled, as it comes with a brush head cover for when you’re on the go, as well as a UV protection case that kills 99.9% of bacteria within two minutes of storing it (on top of acting as a charging case – overachiever).
Perhaps most exciting for me, though, is the fact its charge lasts for a whole month. Yep, you heard that right. Imagine little old me walking around for the last few years thinking it’s normal for my toothbrush to guaranteed have run out of battery on a long weekend trip.
Well, that’s a problem of the past, because since charging this using the included USB C charger two weeks ago, I’ve not had to charge it once.
And it only gets better from here – for you anyway, because right now SURI 2.0 is on sale on Amazon for 25% off.
That means you’ll get a toothbrush that’s as gentle on the planet as it is on your teeth and wallets for under £80. If I was you I’d be running to checkout before it sells out, just saying...
