Thea’s revenge against Emmerdale’s Kim takes two major twists

DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) is traipsing around Emmerdale with the huge secret that she is Kim Tate’s (Claire King) daughter, and she’s out for cold hard revenge for the life Kim thrust upon her by putting her up for adoption.

A flashback revealed the dark truth – a hospital scene where young Kim decided she wouldn’t be raising baby Anthea.

Though we know little about Thea’s childhood, it’s safe to say it was pretty rough, as she’s repeatedly blamed Kim for her awful upbringing.

She has been on the hunt for incriminating evidence of Kim to bring her the karma she thinks she deserves, having snooped around Home Farm in the hope she’d land on something hot. Unfortunately for Thea, Graham (Andrew Scarborough) caught her, and she was forced to fib her way out of it.

Then came the golden opportunity – blaming Kim for Jimmy’s (Nick Miles) death by faking evidence she’d been driving erratically nearby. The muck didn’t stick and Thea was forced to let her go. But it was a sign of how hard she’s prepared to go to get her prize.

But there might be a thaw in Thea’s resolve, and is plot twist number one. She approaches Kim while she’s at Will’s graveside where she’s reflecting on how she couldn’t protect Dawn (Olivia Bromley), and the two women share a moment that’s enough to stir some feelings in Thea.

Claire King shares: ‘Thea arrives and she’s vocalising this to Thea, and Thea then thinks “Oh. She has actually got a soft side. Maybe she is not the monster I thought she was.” Because she has come back to get her believing that she has been this monster, this evil woman for twenty seven years. So she softens a bit.’

This small interaction is enough for Thea to tell Serena (Casey Al-Shaqsy) she thinks she might have been wrong.

Serena urges her to come clean with Kim about their connection, but it’s not long before a softened Thea hardens again. In the pub, she overhears what she thinks is Kim’s flippant attitude to Joe’s baby. In plot twist number two, the revenge plot is back on.

Claire explains: ‘[Kim] basically says “There’s nothing I can do. The baby’s gone. That’s the end of the story”. And it makes her sound really harsh and uncaring, like she doesn’t care about the baby at all when in fact it’s the opposite.’

Speaking of what the future might hold for Kim and Thea, Claire shares insights that though there’s a chance they could reconcile, there could also be ‘danger’ ahead for Kim.

‘I believe they could be in danger,’ she says. ‘She’s an officer of the law. Thea’s out to get her. She does all sorts of things, gets her pulled over at the side of the road, using a copper, she’s trying to find out and dig up any dirt she can on Kim.’

But Thea’s drive to see Kim taken down might be her own complete undoing. Unable to keep herself from plotting, Thea’s consultation with Serena is spotted by Sarah (Katie Hill).

Sarah is crumbling under the guilt of what she’s done to Charity (Emma Atkins) as the murder trial looms, but spotting Serena in cahoots with Thea makes her question things. Sarah is the savviest of the Dingles, what will she do with this information?
