The Witcher 3 Remastered – almost a new game (CD Projekt Red)

CD Projekt’s remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches this week, so here’s exactly when you can check out Geralt’s revamped makeover. 

Before the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, developer CD Projekt had a lofty reputation thanks to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. 

The role-playing sequel cleaned up at the game of the year awards when it launched in 2015, and is often cited as one of the greatest games ever made. Its reputation has only grown since, thanks to two acclaimed expansions, in Hearts Of Stone and Blood & Wine. 

The Witcher 3 is set to get a new expansion next year, Songs Of The Past, which will tee up The Witcher 4 in 2028. So for anyone who hasn’t tried the title already, CD Projekt has dolled it up via a remaster to make it more digestible for modern audiences. Although, of course, it’s also perfect, for existing fans too.

What time does The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launch? 

The Witcher 3 launches across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. In the UK, it will launch at 11am BST. You can check out a full list of release times in various regions below. 

UK – 11pm BST Europe – 12pm CEST US – 3am PDT Australia – 8pm AEST Japan – 7pm JST

What is the file size of the remaster? 

As confirmed by CD Projekt, the remaster update across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC will be roughly 45GB. This is on top of the base game, so if you’re on PC, the overall game will take up around 95GB in total, although this may vary slightly, depending on your system.

On Switch 2, the remaster update will be a little bigger at around 50GB, as it’s a separate eShop listing to the original Switch version. 

What are the PC requirements?

What improvements are in The Witcher 3 Remastered? 

According to CD Projekt, the remaster sports upgraded visuals, combat, movement, mount handling, monster behaviours, new Witcher signs effects, a reworked skill tree, transmogrification, new finishers, and an expanded photo mode.

However, as outlined in our review, some of these changes aren’t quite as significant as they sound.

If I already own The Witcher 3, can I get an upgrade? 

Yes, anyone who has already purchased The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, or PC can download the remaster for free. This applies to either digital or physical copies.

If you own the game on a last generation system (aka PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Switch), you’ll only be able to get the upgrade if you own their respective next generation console. For example, PlayStation 4 owners can only get an upgrade on PlayStation 5.
