Some TV shows don’t crash so much as they miss their landing window and get blamed for the weather. Star Trek: Enterprise didn’t just materialize out of the ether. By 2001, the franchise had achieved its stride, and the audience was fully on board, keeping note of everything that worked and was canon. Star Trek: The Next Generation built its identity on attempting diplomacy over war if at all possible, and developed the sense that there was a right answer if you just held your ground long enough.
