Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14.The Rookie is falling into a disappointing pattern with its recurring villains, and that pattern is evident in the Season 7 episode "Mad About Murder." The recent installment disposes of the hitman, Malvado (Jimmy Gonzalez), in a very underwhelming and anti-climactic fashion that exemplifies a recurring problem throughout Season 7. The Rookie sets up cool, interesting long-term plots and characters, and then the show haphazardly jettisons them almost as an afterthought. The Malvado issue is the latest instance of this chronic issue in The Rookie, and it's a good time to explore the matter further.
