The spin-off was set to focus on Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty (Marcel Spears), who prepare for a new chapter in their lives as they leave their parents’ home. They are headed to reside in Venice Beach, which is close to home but feels entirely different. The decision about its cancellation likely stems from budgetary issues at CBS, as mentioned by Cedric the Entertainer in a TV Line interview.

He said, “We were excited about doing this. We created the idea, and we intentionally tried to use an episode of The Neighborhood that we had in order to shoot it.” He further mentioned that the network is not doing many pilots and added, “They’re not spending a lot of money… they’re just kind of workshopping ideas. We thought we did a great job, but ultimately there wasn’t enough room in the budget for what we had.”

However, viewers got a glimpse of the now-shelved project through its pilot, which was released on May 5. It has been incorporated in the Season 7 finale, and the storyline will follow in the next season.

For the unversed, The Neighborhood has also been canceled after Season 8. The upcoming chapter is deemed as its final one. Although an official release date has not been confirmed, it is set to air during its 2025-2026 broadcast season.
