The End of Oak Street has received its first wave of reactions following recent press screenings.

Early responses largely praise the film’s dinosaur action and family-centered story. The Warner Bros. film appears to have made a strong impression on critics, with several calling it one of the more entertaining dinosaur films of recent years. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor have also drawn praise for their performances.

Erik Voss praised the film on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “THE END OF OAK STREET is a delight. It’s the perfect blend of sci-fi awe and family survival horror from the Amblin age. It tortures its heroes while remaining endearingly sweet. Spend your August feasting on David Robert Mitchell’s split diopter shots and mean-ass dinos.”

Brandon Davis noted, “#TheEndOfOakStreet is a vicious blast,” while also praising Hathaway’s performance. He continued, “Does it have a ton of logic? Maybe not… but is it pure fun thrills? Abso-f***in’-lutely. I think this is the best dinosaur movie in a few decades. Definitely the most fun. It’s insane.”

That The #EndofOakStreet is a thrilling, Amblin-ish adventure isn’t surprising. Yet the layers of melancholy and pain that David Robert Mitchell brings to it in between its abundance of thrills and heart is. Its idiosyncrasies are as unforgettable as its delightfully nasty dinos. pic.twitter.com/GKt6A72xml

Sean Fennessey wrote, “This movie is well-made, brisk, a lot of fun.” Similarly, Matt Neglia praised David Robert Mitchell’s direction, as well as the film’s production design and performances. The critic concluded, “It has its fair share of silly moments, and I certainly question the moral ethics of its ending, but overall, this was a fun, nostalgic, and well-paced thrill ride.”

David Ehrlich called the film the “biggest surprise of the summer.” He also noted that the film “delivers more fun in any 5-minute stretch than the entire Jurassic franchise has in total since the 90s.”

THE END OF OAK STREET will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Very Amblin-esque, but David Robert Mitchell pushes what can be done to the extreme, never slowing down. It's intense, thrilling, and proudly absurd, but it's got heart and it SHOWS. #EndOfOakStreet pic.twitter.com/d3ylYCWhKW
