Just days after Disney+ scrapped plans for a live-action “Power Rangers” TV series, Universal Pictures and “Everything Everywhere All At Once” filmmakers The Daniels are reportedly doing something that may fill that void for fans.

World of Reel reports that The Daniels’ next film, going by the working title of “Thasnagar,” is essentially a “superhero tentpole with global warming as the villain” and jumps between two time periods – the 1980s and the present.

They say the story “centers on a group of young characters decked out in colour-coded outfits who join forces to take on kaiju, with Matt Damon playing a superhero-like figure who helps guide them. His AI sidekick, meanwhile, is played by Sandra Oh.”

The film is an entirely original property, no connection to “Power Rangers” whatsoever beyond the obvious surface-level similarities/influence from the scant details so far.

The Daniels have reportedly pitched this as “The Breakfast Club” meets “Inception,” and overall the film has a big anime influence.

Sean Kaufman, Silvia Dionicio, Jackson Kelly, Kerrice Brooks, and Thalia Dudek play the five young leads while Charles Melton, Michael Gandolfini, and PinkPantheress co-star.

The Daniels’ next film opens in cinemas on November 19th 2027.
