Before Patrick Wilson played Ed Warren in The Conjuring, he starred in yet another family-haunting horror series that began with 2010's Insidious. In the first two movies, Josh Lambert (Wilson) and his family are haunted by the spirits of the Further, a foggy netherworld that can be reached through astral projection. The entries afterward were prequels that focused on the trio who helped the Lamberts, Elise (Lin Shaye), Specs (Leigh Whannell), and Tucker (Angus Sampson). So, there was cause for excitement among fans whenthe original cast would return for a fourth sequel. Patrick Wilson wouldn't just be haunted again; 2023's The Red Door would mark his directorial debut. It had all the makings of a legacy sequel that would please the fans, and the reunion on-screen likely helped it earn the highest-grossing opening of the franchise. Although it was a departure from previous sequels, there is still something to enjoy about what Patrick Wilson did with the horror franchise.
