Liam and Hope are about to become husband and wife again on Bold and Beautiful, with the celebrations kicking off in the Wednesday, December 10 episode. The couple has been down the aisle multiple times over the years and has previously succeeded in tying the knot three times, but the actors who bring the characters to life, Scott Clifton and Annika Noelle, both agree that this time around, the wedding feels different.

Happily Ever After

Liam and Hope reconnected earlier this year when everyone was led to believe that he was dying of an inoperable brain tumor. However, that turned out to be a lie, and with his renewed lease on life, Liam decided not to waste any more time. Having spent so many years waffling between Hope and Steffy, he now feels ready to commit. In a new interview with TV Insider, Clifton admitted, “I was worried that it was going to look like, ‘The minute we find out Liam’s okay, he’s going to get married to Hope, and it’s going to be the same thing, and it’s going to look like there’s no lesson learned.’ But then, the way it was handled, it really felt like Liam and Hope were getting married in a way that was a tribute to their history rather than getting married and having to sweep their history under the rug.”

For her part, Hope has also been through plenty of drama since her last trip to the altar with Liam, including ultimately failed romantic entanglements with Thomas and Carter, but Liam’s near-death experience was a wake-up call for her as well. Also speaking to TV Insider, Noelle explained that her alter ego “believes that they have done enough growing in this time apart from each other to where she feels like, ‘OK, as two adults, we can look at each other and make these promises and hopefully stick to them.’”

The intimate family wedding that unites Liam and Hope in holy matrimony will be hosted in the home of the groom’s dad, Bill, and the ceremony will be officiated by the couple’s daughter, Beth, with Henry Joseph Samiri returning as Douglas, Hope’s adopted son (his biological father is Thomas). Beamed Noelle, “I feel very maternal to them, and it felt really lovely to have them both be involved in the wedding. Henry and I snuck in our secret handshake, and I hope they didn’t cut it.”

The feel-good episodes will showcase the close relationships between the duo and their loved ones, a list that includes Hope’s mom, Brooke, and her aunt Katie, young Kelly, who is Liam’s daughter with ex Steffy, Hope’s half brother, Deke, and Liam’s half brother, Will. Of his experience shooting on set, Clifton smiled, “I’ve known Annika for so long now, and there was a familiarity, a backstory behind it. The speeches and the vows and filming felt fresh, and we were all kind of emotional on set. It’s not this ‘fireworks’ big event, but it was the first time that it just felt like an excuse for some really nice scenes.”

Of course, the real test will come after the “I do’s” are exchanged. Given all the makeups, breakups, marriages and divorces already in their B&B rear view, can Hope and Liam finally now build a lasting union? Clifton mused, “I have to believe that they can. Do I believe they will? That’s a totally different question. But it would be very, very difficult to have made these scenes what they were if I didn’t, on some level, convince myself that these characters can actually pull this off this time and it can work for them.”
