The Silence of the Lambs introduced most of the world to Hannibal Lecter, a cannibalistic serial killer Thomas Harris created in his novel Red Dragon. Seven years after this novel, Harris wrote the sequel, The Silence of the Lambs, which resulted in the movie that made Hannibal Lecter a horror movie icon, played by Anthony Hopkins. That movie was also a huge success when it swept the Big Five Oscar categories, with Hopkins winning Best Actor, Jodie Foster for Best Actress, Jonathan Demme for Best Director, Ted Tally for Best Screenplay, and the top award for Best Picture.
