THE Chase has featured questions that even left the show’s stars fuming – would you have got them right?

Sometimes, even the Chasers have been left frustrated by certain questions.

From The Beast’s outburst to a shock bust-up, here are five examples across the years.

Star Wars

Two of the most formidable Chasers are Paul Sinha (aka The Sinnerman) and Jenny Ryan (aka The Vixen).

A 2021 episode of Beat The Chasers showed Jenny’s frustration when Paul bungled a Star Wars question.

Presenter Bradley Walsh asked: “In Star Wars, Tauntaun lizards live on what snowy planet?”

Paul incorrectly answered “Tattooine”, only to get a whack on the shoulder from Jenny.

Following this, the fuming pair were shown staring each other down – not realising they had another question to answer.

One fan wrote online: “That was nasty the Vixen hitting The Sinnerman.”

Another tweeted: “The way the Vixen had a go at The Sinnerman for getting that Star Wars question wrong. Then she got the next question wrong herself.”

Meanwhile, Paul himself took to X (then Twitter) after the episode aired to address the moment.

He wrote: “I know Sweet FA about Star Wars. It just wasn’t my question to answer.

“I just heard a hard T sound twice and assumed the answer must be Tatooine.

“We make mistakes. Jenny was right to be angry. Neither of us were tight to stare at each other.

“Both of us had totally forgotten that the next question was ours.

“In that four seconds, both of us looked ridiculous. It was exhilirating at the time, and p**s funny as well. It is funny when things go wrong.”

Anne’s Outburst

Anne “The Governess” Hegerty has been part of the ITV game show in 2010.

In one episode, she had a clash with Bradley after incorrectly answering a question.

It asked: “Who allegedly said ‘The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read?’”

Anne opted for Albert Einstein, while contestant Dean selected Mark Twain.

Admitting she wasn’t confident, Anne said: “It was between B and C.”

Bradley replied: “Strangely enough Albert Einstein was the only one who wasn’t really a writer.

“Although Oscar Wilde and Mark Twain were, I wonder what made you choose that?”

To which Anne refuted: “Well, he did write important papers on things like the photoelectric effect for which he won the Nobel Prize.”

Continuing his teasing, Bradley said: “But not really books and stuff, was he?”

“The Chaser who does not swat up has no advantage over the player who can’t swat up.”

Unimpressed, Anne simply shot back: “Shut up.”

Following this light-hearted change, the game continued on with The Governess victorious in the Final Chase.

Bradley’s Disbelief

Presenter Bradley – who has been part of The Chase since the start – has also had his moments of despair.

One instance saw him hit his head on the table in disbelief and cry “What’s wrong with you?”

A contestant – primary school teacher Hollie – had incorrectly answering a crucial question.

Bradley was convinced that her job would give her an advantage and she’d have a “broad church of knowledge”.

She had been asked in the cash builder: “Shrewsbury hosts a February festival named after which naturalist?”

A confident Hollie replied: “Erm, Attenborough.”

Bradley shouted: “Nooo!”

And the correct answer soon popped into Hollie’s head as the klaxon for the end of the round went off.

She shouted: “Darwin!”

In pure frustration Bradley banged his head on the table and said to Hollie: “Charles Darwin!”

Her teammate Dave added that the naturalist was born in Shrewsbury.

Bradley joked: “It’s no good bringing that knowledge to the game now!

“What’s wrong with you?!”

The Beast’s Outburst

An uncharacteristically poor performance for Mark “The Beast” Labbett proved how much he hates losing.

Contestants Ian and Lynn managed to overcome the brainbox in a disastrous round.

He stumbled on six questions in the Final Chase – including about EastEnders‘ Aunt Sal, where Canvey Island is, and the name of Africa‘s second-longest river.

Left fuming, The Beast got out of his seat and stormed off – having hammered the set with his left hand. 

He had already politely congratulated Ian and Lynn, telling them: “Well played team, you deserve it” before getting out of his seat

A fan wrote on X: “That set is being held together with duct tape, superglue and Blu-Tack – it can’t take another hit!”

Another giggled: “The Beast throwing a strop.”

While a third wrote: “Would be brilliant if all 4 contestants took back the high offers and beat the chaser mark labbett the Beast, Mark would prob punch down the studio.”

The Menace’s Exasperation

Elsewhere, Darragh “The Menace” Ennis also had a moment of frustration on the show.

The Irish scientist has been a Chaser since 2020, although he was on the show as a contestant three years earlier.

One episode saw contestant Debbie shock Darragh with her pop culture knowledge.

However, Darragh was stunned given what the player had said in her introduction.

She told Bradley: “I go to comic conventions and cosplay.

“I’ve gone across London dressed as Princess Leia, from Slough to London as Princess Leia,” 

Continuing, Debbie revealed she had previously dressed as Maleficent, Tank Girl, and Lady Gaga from American Horror Story.

Her final question was: “Which of these films does NOT feature a lightsaber duel between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker?”

Darragh remarked: “I think you would have had to hand in your ‘nerd card’ if you didn’t get that one right.”

Bradley informed Debbie that she was through to the Final Chase in a Darth Vader voice.

Though, The Menace commented: “I know the computer throws these questions out at random, but the fact that you got a Lord of the Rings question and a Star Wars question.

“It’s frankly outrageous.”
