As the leaves turn golden and crisp air settles across the city, it’s officially time to trade your iced coffee for a pumpkin spice latte and head out on the perfect autumnal day trip.

While you might associate pumpkin picking with sprawling countryside farms, you don’t have to travel far from the capital to find an array of family-friendly spots.

Some are already open for the season, while others can be booked ahead if you’re planning a visit closer to Halloween.

So whether you’re looking to carve the ultimate jack-o’-lantern or just enjoy a cosy day out, Metro has you covered, with the top 12 pumpkin patches in and around London.

Crockford Bridge Farm

Tucked away in Surrey, this family-owned farm opens for pumpkin picking from October 4 through to the end of the month, with entry starting from £7.50 (free for under-ones).

For the full festive experience, check out its Wonderland Pumpkin Festival (£12 entry), featuring immersive storytellers, costumed performers, pumpkin carving, and nostalgic fairground games.

Afterwards, treat yourself to a warming drink from the hot chocolate shack or something chillier from the ice cream parlour. There’s also street food from local pop-ups on the weekend if you’re after something more substantial.

Hobbledown Heath 

Located in Hounslow, this spot is open from September 25 to November 1, with tickets starting at 75p for ages one to two, £7.50 for adults and children over two, and free for infants under one.

Beyond picking your perfect pumpkin, you can pose at seasonal photo backdrops here, toast marshmallows, or let the kids run wild in the indoor play barn.

It even host dog-friendly days (£2.50 per pup), so your four-legged friends don’t miss out on the photo ops — and is right by Hobbledown Heath adventure park (from £20) if you want to make a day of it.

Tewinbury Farm Hotel

For a boutique autumn experience just an hour from London, luxury Hertfordshire farm hotel Tewinbury is hosting a festive pumpkin patch from October 29 to November 1.

Entry is £8 per person (under-twos go free), and there’ll be street food trucks, face painting, a kids’ disco, and a dedicated bar serving seasonal cocktails and hot drinks.

Pumpkins range from £2 to £9 depending on size, and dogs on leads are welcome.

Cammas Hall Farm

Boasting an impressive 80 varieties of pumpkins and squash, Cammas Hall Farm in Hertfordshire is an autumn lover’s playground opening Saturday, October 3.

Looking for date night plans? Book their adults-only evening event (£19.95), complete with spooky tunnels and live music.

With tickets starting at £6 (+23p booking fee), you can enjoy pumpkin picking, warm autumnal snacks and cider, charming storytime nooks, and a festive trick-or-treat lane add-on, alongside an SEN session on Monday, October 26, 12-1pm.

Hertfordshire Zoo

From October 23 to November 1, Hertfordshire Zoo transforms a section of its grounds into ‘Pumpkin Valley’, an autumn wonderland packed with seasonal displays, scarecrows, and a dedicated Pumpkin Shack to pick one out and take it home.

Access is included with zoo day tickets (£76.49 for adults, £49.78 for children), making it a great choice if you want to pair seasonal festivities with a day of visiting the animals.

You can gather your crop by hand or load up a wheelbarrow with as many pumpkins as you can fit for £39, while individual pumpkins range from £1.50 to £15.

While you’ll need to purchase your pumpkins separately, the endless photo opportunities and festive atmosphere make it well worth the trip.

Or, why not give its ‘Haunted Hallow Evenings’ on October 23 and 28 a go. Guests can explore the farm by starlight, taking in an illuminated animal trail before joining resident witch Haggerty for a disco, festive story time, and party games.
