A fantasy ending has an unfair job. The movie spends two hours teaching you that impossible things can happen, then somehow has to land the story in a way that feels inevitable. Too neat and the magic evaporates. Too vague and everybody leaves pretending confusion is sophistication. The best endings manage something harder. They make the final image feel like it had been waiting for you since the opening scene. And that’s why the competition is just too high for newer fantasy films.
