PlayStation as a brand has been one of the most important and widely celebrated icons of video game greatness for generations, with none of this rich history of exceptional gaming existing without the impact and strengths of Sony's debut home console. While the PS1 was originally conceived as a CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo, a collapsed deal with Nintendo led to Sony marketing and releasing the console independently, in the process becoming one of the largest titans in the home console industry.
