In August, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jaideep Ahlawat, and many others participated in the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), with images and clips from the event rapidly appearing online. Comedian Sapan Verma served as the host for the awards ceremony and has recently released a video on his Instagram account of his opening monologue, in which he playfully mocked stars like Aamir, Malaika, and Abhishek.

Sapan Verma makes fun of Aamir Khan

The video began with Sapan making fun of Aamir Khan's relentless promotion of Sitaare Zameen Par. He said, "Aamir Khan, as we all know, was so good this year in all the 450 interviews he did to promote Sitaare Zameen Par. Sir, you did so much promotion at one point, I was worried. My doorbell rang, I thought you had personally come to tell me to watch the film."

Aamir Khan declined Rs 120 crore

He humorously commented on Aamir declining a Rs 100 crore OTT offer, stating, "Aamir sir made history, an iconic move. He has released this film directly on YouTube. I have heard that you declined an offer of more than Rs 100 crore from an OTT platform for this move. Rs 100 crore. You know what that means, right? Akshay Kumar's monthly salary." Aamir indeed participated in numerous interviews to promote Sitaare Zameen Par. He later revealed that the film would not debut on any OTT platform. Reports indicated that he had rejected a Rs 120 crore proposal from Amazon Prime Video for its digital rights. Ultimately, Aamir launched the film on YouTube, charging viewers Rs 100.

Aamir Khan's Bold Move

Regarding his choice, Aamir stated, "This was the reason why I did not give away the rights of my film Sitaare Zameen Par, as this plan was in motion. Our plan is to release every film under the Aamir Khan Production banner on YouTube, after they complete their theatrical run. Each movie will be available at a minimal cost of Rs 100."

Sitaare Zameen Par

Directed by RS Prasanna, this sports comedy-drama serves as a spiritual successor to Khan's well-loved 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The movie features Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in the leading roles, alongside ten debutant actors, all of whom have special abilities. An official adaptation of the 2018 Spanish movie Campeones, it tells the story of a suspended basketball coach who is compelled to do community service by training a team of players with disabilities for an upcoming tournament.

The film garnered positive feedback from both critics and audiences, becoming a box-office hit with earnings of Rs 267.52 crore, against a production budget of Rs 122 crore.
