Jordan Peele, A24, Taylor Sheridan, and more are all hoping to score the rights to a Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot.

The original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released in 1974. Directed by Tobe Hooper, the iconic horror movie spawned a cinematic film franchise that further includes 1986’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, 1990’s Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, 1995’s The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2003’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 2006’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D, 2017’s Leatherface, and 2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Who is vying for the rights to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot?

According to a recent report for Deadline, a bidding war for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre IP — which “canvases film, TV, live events, and games” — is expected to begin this coming Monday, June 9, 2025.

While there are no clear frontrunners at this time, a number of notable entities are planning to pitch their plans to Verve, the agency that has “repped the rights to the slasher franchise since 2017.”

Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, Longlegs’ Oz Perkins, and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions are all separately interested in pursuing the project and putting together pitches. All three of them would only serve as producers at this time, should they be granted the rights, though Perkins would also co-write with Bryan Bertino for NEON.

Additionally, J.T. Mollner and Roy Lee are setting up a television pitch that is aligned with A24 and has “Austin, TX native Glen Powell involved, but not starring.” A24 notably is also working on a Friday the 13th series titled Crystal Lake.

Lee, meanwhile, has another Texas Chainsaw Massacre feature film pitch with Netflix, which released the most recent entry in the franchise.

More details will follow at a later date. At this time, no forthcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre television show or movie has been formally announced by any studio.
