— billboard (@billboard) May 13, 2025Taylor Swift’s legal team is looking to throw out Justin Baldoni’s subpoena amid his ongoing legal battle with Blake Lively. In a new filing, Swift’s law firm, Venable, called the subpoena an “abuse of the discovery process” meant to distract from the case.
“Venable had nothing to do with the film at issue or any of the claims or defenses asserted in the underlying lawsuit,” wrote the firm in a motion on Monday, reported by Billboard. “There is no reason for this subpoena other than to distract from the facts of the case and impose undue burden and expense on a non-party.”
Swift’s attorneys mentioned that Baldoni’s lawyer served a subpoena on April 29 asking for all communications between Swift and Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and the couple’s attorney. The law firm stated that Baldoni should have sourced the communication from Lively and Reynolds instead, calling Swift’s inclusion an “abuse of the discovery process” in a Tuesday filing.
The Washington, D.C.-based law firm Venable, has represented Swift since around 2013.
