Taylor Swift's gruelling preparation for Eras Tour shows almost derailed Travis Kelce romance

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce may be dating now – the NFL star, in fact, touched down in Sydney just yesterday to reunite with the superstar – but when he first tried to meet her, she turned him down.

Let's rewind to July 2023, when the Kansas City Chiefs tight end attempted – and failed – to give Swift, 34, a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it at one of her Eras Tour concerts.

"I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her," Kelce, also 34, told his brother Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast after the concert.

He may have been "butt-hurt", but Kelce said he understood why they couldn't meet that day.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Kelce explained.

Swift's blockbuster – and history-making – The Eras Tour has seen her perform a plethora of 3.5-hour-long shows, often back-to-back, already across five continents.

She has been on the road or up in the air intermittently since March 2023, and she's not set to finish the tour until December 2024.

Her physical preparation began six months before she took the stage at the tour's debut in Glendale, Arizona – Swift told Time in her 2023 Person of the Year interview she would train by running on a treadmill every day "singing the entire set list out loud" – a fast run for fast songs, and a fast walk or jog for slow songs.

"I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans and not lose my train of thought," Swift told the publication.

She also underwent a specially-crafted gym program crafted with strength training and conditioning in mind, plus three months of dance practice.

Swift stopped drinking too, but she did allow herself to indulge at the Grammys – and that was her only exception.

"Doing that show with a hangover – I don't want to know that world," she told the publication.

Rest is also an essential ingredient to her routine, and that includes vocal rest, which is why she did not see Kelce on that fateful day in Kansas City – she doesn't speak to anyone before or after the shows.

She also takes what she calls a "dead day" when she does get a break following back-to-back shows.

This means she spends the entire day in bed, only leaving to get food.

"It's a dream scenario," she told Time.

It's a disciplined practice so strict because of one very important reason – "If someone buys a ticket to my show, I'm going to play it unless we have some sort of force majeure."

It appears to have all worked out for the best for her, with Swift ending up in a relationship with Kelce anyway as her billion-dollar tour continues to climb new heights.

He eventually got in contact with the superstar by having a few mutual friends put in a good word for him after his failed attempt at a concert meet-cute.

Swift got wind that the NFL star was keen to connect and sent him a message (outside of his and her training hours) and the rest is history.
