John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) faced plenty of enemies in Yellowstone, but his ancestors' nemesis in 1923 was the vilest villain the Dutton family ever faced. In Yellowstone season 5, John was murdered by mercenaries hired by Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) and Market Equities. Yet it could be said that John's death was the cost of doing 'business,' although Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) took their vengeance for their father's murder personally.
