Sydney Sweeney Cast in Split Fiction Based Movie From Wicked Director

Sydney Sweeney continues to expand her presence in Hollywood with the news that she has signed on to star in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the critically acclaimed video game Split Fiction. Meanwhile, the director of the Wicked movie, John M. Chu, will be helming the project with Deadpool movie writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick coming on to write the Split Fiction film’s script.

John M. Chu to direct Split Fiction movie led by Sydney Sweeney

As reported by Variety, Sydney Sweeney will headline the Split Fiction movie, which takes inspiration from the Hazelight Studios-developed co-op video game of the same name.

Published by Electronic Arts, the game revolves around the misadventures of two authors, Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster, who inadvertently find themselves confined in the fictional worlds that they themselves conceptualized. Co-written by Sebastian Antonios Johansson and Hazelight Studios founder Josef Fares, the cooperative action-adventure game revolves around split-screen gameplay and primarily includes platforming challenges.

Since its March 6, 2025, launch, Split Fiction has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and players alike. The game has also proven to be a financial success for Hazelight, selling in excess of two million copies in the first week of its release.

Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson’s entertainment company, Story Kitchen, is set to produce the film adaptation in collaboration with John M. Chu’s production company, Electric Somewhere, with Chu directing. Notably, Story Kitchen has had a hand in the recently successful Sonic the Hedgehog movie adaptations. Meanwhile, Sydney Sweeney, in addition to starring in Split Fiction, will also serve as an executive producer on the film.

Despite the confirmation of Sydney Sweeney’s involvement, it remains unclear as to which character the Euphoria star will play in the movie. Additionally, details regarding the additional cast and the release schedule of the film remain under wraps at the time of writing.
