Nestled in a private enclave in Los Angeles, CA, StrataSonic’s home is a state-of-the-art recording studio helmed by the label’s in-house producers. Established in 2024 by platinum selling producer Jesse Rogg, the electronic music collective has officially formalized its sixth master recording. Now streaming via Rogg’s artist-first imprint, “No Signal” materializes a soulful, jungle-inspired lead single from electronic duo Everything Liquid’s forthcoming self-titled EP, due May 2nd. The track highlights vocals from Chicago-born, GRAMMY-nominated R&B singer, Jesse Boykins III. Boykins wrote the song’s intimate lyrics while watching the party scene from Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet on mute, noting,
“It solidified the emotions needed to directly express how magical a moment is if we are honest and truthful in it. It’s about the art of letting go on the dance floor with music as a guiding light to intimacy.”
To honor the official release of “No Signal,” Dancing Astronaut sat down with StrataSonic label founder Jesse Rogg to discuss the track, the innovative label’s origins, and more. Read the exclusive Q&A below.
How does StrataSonic differ from a traditional record label?
Jesse: “Everyone on our team has been working in the music business for a long time, in a ton of different ways. Stratasonic was set up almost as the anti-label label. The term ‘record label’ has odd connotations to artists and the industry as a whole these days for very understandable reasons. For us, it’s always about supporting artists first and foremost. I know this sounds a bit generic, but nearly everyone who’s apart of the label is or has been an artist in their own right… And with our infrastructure, we’re lucky to be able to do things a bit differently and more thoughtfully. From the way we structure deals to creative services to products, distribution, promotion, out-of-home marketing, events, etc… We want it to be the best of all worlds for the long term.”
What is the intention behind StrataSonic’s sound so far?
Jesse: “Sonically, we are extremely lucky that our label’s studio is home to some of the most extensive and carefully curated gear collections in the world. And we either track the records at our studios entirely, or we at least run the mixing and mastering sessions through them. There is no part in the production process that isn’t meticulously thought after by everyone on our team… We are excited for our growing roster of artists to be able to utilize these spaces and share our gear! Musically, we’re not tied to any one genre, which gives us the opportunity to really hone in and focus on the art first!”
You’ve had renowned visual artists RUFFMERCY and YZA Voku work on recent videos for ANiML. How important is the visual side of a music release?
Jesse: “Music is the North Star, but the creative world around it is vital to tell the artist’s story as well as StrataSonic’s story and mission. For our team it’s important to use a whole variety of creative mediums, including videos, merch, package design, vinyl, products, events, and interesting out-of-home marketing plays to build out artists’ individual worlds.”
What’s next for StrataSonic?
Jesse: “Coming off a really special label party in Mexico City with Channel Tres, Smiles Davis, and StrataSonic’s own A&R, Bill Patrick and Maria Nocheydia, we are more inspired than ever to do a handful of delicately curated, special pop-ups around the world! Even though we’re very much Los Angeles based, we’re a rather international crew, so it makes sense for us to be in cities like Paris, Ibiza, Tokyo, London, Toronto and New York, hosting events… We have some great music in the pipeline for 2025 and 2026. ANiML’s recent LP Star Walk hit a sweet spot for us, so we’re excited about the upcoming remix package… We are especially excited about the release of “No Signal,” from the fresh new project called Everything Liquid featuring our friend and collaborator Jesse Boykins III. Go stream it now!”
