Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke Cast in New Netflix TV Show, More Details Revealed

Maya Hawke has joined the cast of a new Netflix TV show called The God of the Woods.

Hawke, who is the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, is best known for playing Robin Buckley in Netflix’s Stranger Things. She voiced Anxiety in 2024’s Inside Out 2 and has starred in other movies such as 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 2021’s Fear Street Part One: 1994, 2023’s Asteroid City, and more, while she’ll soon be seen playing Wiress in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which arrives this November.

Now, Netflix has announced that Hawke will play a character named Judy Luptack in The God of the Woods, which comes from executive producers and co-showrunners Liz Hannah and Liz Moore.

What else do we know about The God of the Woods with Maya Hawke?

A description of Hawke’s character reads, “Smart and quietly determined, Judy, the first female investigator in the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation, is assigned to unravel the disappearance of a young girl from a summer camp in upstate New York.”

The God of the Woods is based on a novel written by Moore that was published in 2024. Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty also serve as executive producers on the show, which comes from Sony Pictures Television, for Original Film.

A description of the plot reads, “The God of the Woods is a multi-generational drama series set in the Adirondacks, exploring the Van Laar family’s dark secrets, class tensions, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp—in the wake of an earlier family tragedy that may be related. As the past and present collide, the Van Laars’ wealth and influence unravel, revealing the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power.”

No other casting beyond Hawke has been announced. A release date has not yet been set.
