One of the best players in Phoenix Suns history is making his way back to the desert.

Franchise legend and Hall of Famer Steve Nash is rejoining the Suns in a senior advisor role, team owner Mat Ishbia announced via X on Monday.

“Steve Nash was an amazing player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns are all about,” Ishbia said in his post. “His grit, toughness, and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past, and I’m so excited to share that Steve is formally joining the Suns as a senior advisor and will help us define our future for years to come!”

Nash, one of the greatest players in Canadian basketball and Suns history, spent 10 seasons in Arizona over two separate stints, taking them to the Western Conference Finals in 2005 and 2006.

Past the team’s success, Nash also earned back-to-back MVP nods in the aforementioned seasons, becoming the first Canadian player to earn the honour.

Drafted by the team 15th overall in 1996, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998 and spent six years in Texas before returning to Phoenix in 2004.

His No. 13 jersey was retired by the franchise in 2015.

Nash, 51, most recently held an NBA job as coach of the Brooklyn Nets but agreed to part ways with the team in November 2022. He has since become a co-host of the Mind the Game podcast alongside LeBron James, and it was announced that he would join Amazon Prime’s NBA coverage for the 2025-26 season.

After qualifying for the playoffs for four straight seasons, the Suns missed the post-season last year after finishing with a 36-46 record.
