Everyone must have had that annoying brother, sister, or friend who just cannot help trolling you, right? Well, when Jimmy Butler was acquired by the Golden State Warriors back in February, Buddy Hield got that type of friend on his side. From poking fun at the shooting guard for using big words like ‘connector’, to telling him to “stop trying to dribble the ball”, the veteran trolls the player at a level that only a sibling could. Butler especially made it a point to exclude Hield from an appreciation post for Stephen Curry and co. However, if one sibling keeps poking and poking at the other, mom has to intervene at some point. And mom did intervene.
Barely sometime after the Warriors’ Game 3 win against the Houston Rockets in the ongoing playoffs, Jimmy Butler put out a post on Instagram. Butler, who is currently recovering from a deep glute muscle contusion, missed the matchup. This meant that Stephen Curry and the other scorers had to carry the offensive effort on their shoulders. Fortunately, they did, with Curry dropping an impressive 36 points into the overall total. Butler sent his appreciation to the 3-point leader through the post, which featured the Bat-Signal, but the Bat-Symbol was replaced with the official logo of Under Armour’s Curry Brand. Butler also added a caption alongside the post that read “thanks batman and team. excluding buddy”. Yikes. Well, Stephen Curry made it known that he appreciated the post. However, he also did not shy away from giving credit where he felt it was due.
“Buddy did the cold tub post game. You should be proud of him!” wrote Curry in the comments section of the post. At least when mom contradicts you, it is private. Here, the 4x NBA champion made sure to do it in front of Jimmy Butler’s 10.1 million followers!
Despite all the jokes, Stephen Curry was right to appreciate Buddy Hield. After all, the player delivered his best performance of the ongoing postseason by making 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. He shot 6-13 (46.2%) field goals, and 5-11 (45.5%) 3-pointers. Hield and Gary Payton II became Curry’s two running mates in Butler’s absence. Along with Draymond Green and Brandin Podziemski, the players took revenge for the Game 2 loss and established a 2-1 lead in the race for the Western Conference Semi-Finals. If Hield went so aggressive on the court that he needed a cold tub after the game, then he certainly has the respect of the Bay Area fanbase. Therefore, Curry just wanted to remind Butler that Hield should have his respect, too.
However, Butler will not budge so easily. After all, he wasn’t playing, but he was still at the Chase Center to see how the Warriors were going to perform. What the 35-year-old saw did not impress him, leading him to become a coach for the shooting guard.
Buddy Hield takes playful jab at Jimmy Butler’s coaching: “Terrible, terrible advice”
Buddy Hield performed well during the recent matchup. However, he also made some mistakes. The 32-year-old let 2 turnovers be recorded to his score. There were some issues with his dribbling, as Butler did not choose to keep with himself. The veteran was audibly heard telling Hield, when the duo were sitting together on the courtside seats, that “keep dribbling. i’m not inviting you to slap bones again”. Therefore, when he was asked about Butler’s advice after the game, Hield chose to return some of that trolling.
“Terrible, terrible advice. Terrible advice. I was just tuning him out the whole time” said Hield jokingly. However, he later added that “Nah, he’s been good. He’s been positive. He’s telling me how to read drives, except that one time I got picked by Steven Adams, he’s giving me a look and I’m just like ‘Yo, don’t even talk about it.’ But he’s been good, just talking and just encouraging everybody”.

Such behaviour between teammates does nothing but highlight the presence of a good bond. We don’t know what the future will hold for the Warriors, and whether they will make it to the NBA Finals this tournament or not. However, unless the front office decides to make some changes, we can expect this duo to keep entertaining us. Plus, mom will always be there to keep things in check.
