The story of episode 1 already picked up a year after the ending of Andor season 1, with each three-episode block of season 2 moving the timeline forward by another year. This was the desired model by showrunner and writer Tony Gilroy, who wanted Andor season 2's timeline to blend seamlessly into the opening moments of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
