Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Puts Spock Through His Toughest Ordeal Yet

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 has established high stakes for almost every pivotal character, including Spock, who could be heading toward a difficult turn of events. In a recent interview, Christina Chong, who plays La’an Noonien-Singh in the sci-fi series, revealed that the fan-favorite Vulcan may experience a tumultuous period in the fourth season.

While speaking with MovieWeb‘s Joe Deckelmeier, Christina Chong shed some light on La’an’s arc in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4, and how the character’s potential turn to the dark side would impact her lover, Spock.

“La’an felt like the transformation to Vulcan affected her augmented DNA, and so she’s dealing with that in Season 4,” the British actress noted. “She’s feeling different. She’s feeling more paranoid, more angry, more emotional, and so she’s distracted. And I think that in Season 4, it is very clear that they’re going on separate paths. She notices that Spock is going more towards his logical side. So yeah, I think ultimately it leads to the breakup.”

Spock, played by Ethan Peck, has had two unsuccessful relationships in Strange New Worlds so far, with his romance with T’Pring (Gia Sandhu) and Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) faltering due to different reasons. As such, a third heartbreak, this time with Chong’s La’an Noonien-Singh, could have a lasting impact on the character, who is a lot closer to his human side than he was at the beginning of the series.

With La’an living in constant fear of ending up like her ancestor, the villainous Khan Noonien-Singh, her temporary transformation into a Vulcan has only made things more difficult. Even though Spock was able to rescue her in Season 3, which deepened their budding romance, Chong’s statements suggest that things will become much more difficult for them going forward.

Star Trek fans will get to know more about the fate of La’an and Spock’s relationship in the upcoming episodes of Strange New Worlds Season 4, which come out every Thursday on Paramount+.
