For 60 years, Star Trekhas built a universe of interconnected shows and movies and introduced a rich cast of characters. Most of these shows follow the same formula: a spaceship crew travels to distant planets and encounters all manner of alien life, potential threats—or both. What some fans don't know is that Star Trek has recently expanded its storytelling footprint, particularly in comics and novels. IDW Publishing has launched a collection of comics that expands upon the Trek universe, while novels serve as prequels or connective tissue to recent TV series.
