The Medicine Hat Tigers are getting a major boost as they look to claim the WHL title.

After missing Games 3 and 4 of the WHL Championship series against the Spokane Chiefs with an undisclosed injury, star Gavin McKenna is back in Medicine Hat’s lineup for Game 5.

McKenna was held off the scoresheet in a Game 2 loss, ending his 54-game point streak, the longest modern-era run in the CHL.

Medicine Hat fared all right without their leading scorer, though. The Tigers collected a 6-0 win in Game 3 and a 5-2 win in Game 4 to take a 3-1 stranglehold on the series.

McKenna is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

The 17-year-old Whitehorse native was second in the WHL in scoring this season with 129 points in 56 games, and he’s added another 37 points in 15 playoff games.

If the Tigers do, in fact, secure a series win over the Chiefs, they will also advance to the Memorial Cup in Rimouski, Que.
