SPIN Is an AI-Powered Synthesizer Capable of Reshaping Music Creation

8 months ago 28

New developments in the AI space are rapidly redirecting the future of the creative arts, and there's no better evidence of its future in electronic music than SPIN, an AI-powered synthesizer.

Envisioned as a relic from a future where music is hyper-customized to individual preferences, SPIN was developed by Arvind Sanjeev, an award-winning designer and adjunct faculty for Artificial Intelligence at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.

At its core, SPIN simplifies the sophisticated world of AI music generation into something tangible. Imagine pressing a button to express a mood and then using a record player to dive deeper into the music, exploring sounds and rhythms in a way that gamifies the production process.

Through a prompt-based system of inputs, users tell SPIN what they're feeling, the types of sounds that catch their ear or even how fast of a tempo they want for their beat. From there, the synth gets to work, weaving your inputs to generate music that's capable of being manipulated on the fly on a physical record.

What truly sets SPIN apart is its Digital Vinyl System (DVS) feature, through which you can manipulate the music as it plays. It's also possible to slow down a track to hear every nuance or scratch a record as a DJ would.

While SPIN is just a one-of-a-kind concept at the moment, it's likely a harbinger for what's to come in terms of the cutting-edge capabilities housed in the creative tools of tomorrow. You can see the synth in action below and find out more about the concept here.
