Star Wars has posted an official congratulatory message for the Spider-Man team’s box office success. The message celebrates Marvel and Sony‘s blockbuster feature for breaking a massive record, one that the Star Wars franchise held firmly for a decade.

In an X post, Lucasfilm congratulated the Spider-Man: Brand New Day team on setting a new domestic box office record. The caption read, “Impressive. Most Impressive. From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

As stated in the message, the record was held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens for a decade, from January 6, 2016, until September 16, 2026. The Force Awakens earned $936.6M domestically and $2.05B worldwide during the end of its theatrical run. The domestic record has been broken by Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man movie by a narrow margin.
