The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, delivered the second-biggest global box office debut in history. The movie was initially expected to gross under $600 million in its worldwide opening, but these projections picked up in the days leading up to its release. The final figure came to around $930 million, second in the all-time rankings behind fellow MCU blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, which opened with $1.2 billion worldwide in 2019. With this massive haul, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already beaten the lifetime gross of Tom Holland's debut adventure as the friendly neighborhood superhero, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Needless to say, several blockbuster superhero movies, including rival DC titles, were steamrolled by Spider-Man: Brand New Day this past weekend.
