Despite facing brickbats over the last half-decade for overexposure and under-ambition, the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains the highest-grossing film franchise of all time. Since launching with Iron Man in 2008, the superhero film series has generated around $35 billion at the worldwide box office. The franchise’s 38th feature film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, emerged as the mega-correction that Marvel needed following the relative underperformance of several movies such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Marvels. Spider-Man: Brand New Day outgrossed each of these films in its opening weekend alone, breaking the all-time record in the process. In doing so, it set a rather impressive record for the MCU at a time when the public’s confidence in the franchise needed reviving.
