Director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan are emerging as the Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro of their era. They've worked together on all five of Coogler's features, at least two of which have emerged as culture-defining phenomenons. Their partnership began over a decade ago, with the indie drama Fruitvale Station, Coogler's debut film. He graduated to the big leagues immediately afterward, scoring the opportunity to direct the Rocky reboot Creed. That movie inspired two further sequels, and although Coogler didn't return to helm them, he reunited with Jordan on their latest film, Sinners. It has now overtaken all three Creed movies at the global box office.
