Hollyoaks fans know to expect the unexpected when it comes to predicting what’s next in their favourite soap but even by the show’s own standards, this brand new coupling was quite the shock.
As originally teased in the Channel 4 soap’s recent Autumn Trailer, Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) and Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) lock lips in upcoming scenes.
The initial reaction from fans was one of shock, particularly because these two rarely cross paths – and haven’t really interacted much as of late.
With Sienna still public enemy number one following her release from prison and Tony seemingly on the cusp of romance with Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter), just how does the two characters end up sharing a moment?
It’s a question viewers have pondered for few weeks – ever since the trailer dropped – and it’s one we now have answers to, with new spoilers providing some much-needed context.
Leela, as viewers know, has started to fall for Tony after she supported him through the ordeal that was Diane’s (Alex Fletcher) tragic death. Fearing he wouldn’t cope on his own, Diane attempted to play matchmaker for Tony and Leela but they resisted, wanting to be there for her right to the end.
But with Tony being the only one to really understand what she’s going through since losing Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), Leela has grown closer to Tone – and next week at the hospital, she confesses that she’s falling in love with him.
Tony’s reaction to the bombshell admission remains to be seen but later that same day he ends up with Sienna at his flat, where they share a bottle of wine together.
There is an instant spark and soon the chemistry sizzles, with the pair sharing a series of passionate kisses.
The question is: will they come to regret their dalliance? Or is this the beginning of an unexpected new pairing?
What’s more, will Leela find out? And if so, just how will she feel about it given that she is close to both Tony and Sienna?
Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 6am on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
