SUMMER is great for getting out in your garden and enjoying the sun – but it can be annoying if you have nosy neighbours.

Thankfully shoppers have been raving about a bargain £3.50 privacy screen from Shein which can hide your outdoor space from view.

The online retailer is selling an artificial leaf panel which can be attached to your fence or your balcony to give some privacy.

Luckily it won’t break the bank, with a light colour panel measuring one metre being the cheapest option at £3.50

The darker leaf shade for one metre costs £4.25, with the three metre option being £10.75.

This rises to £11.50 for the lighter shade of the three-metre screen.

According to the listing, the screen has an “easy set up in just a few minutes.”

All you have to do is unroll the panel and secure it with some cable ties or nails.

If you buy multiple panels to cover a large area, they can be attached together with the “snap lock mechanism”, which doesn’t require any additional ties.

The privacy fence appears to have gone down well with shoppers, who have given it a 4.79 rating out of five.

One person who left a five-star review said: “Have used as camouflage over pergola and have had compliments on how nice it looked.”

Another added: “Was just the right fit and looks great as a background.”

Meanwhile, a third said: “Looks amazing on my fence for extra privacy.”

Privacy fence rule

While privacy fences can solve the issue of pesky neighbours looking into your garden, an expert has shared a little-known rule that you should follow to avoid being slapped with a huge fine.

Hayes Garden World’s Angela Slater said many people might not be aware that they are breaking the rule.

She said: “The standard hedge and fence height that gives you enough privacy is usually a maximum of two metres.

“Anything above two metres may be a nuisance for your neighbours and potentially block sunlight into their garden, or even cause safety concerns.

“Before erecting a fence or hedge, both parties will need to agree to it, so ensure you notify your neighbours of your wish for a new fence so there is no disturbance.

“If you’re looking to erect a fence over two metres tall, or one metre tall if it is adjacent to a highway used by vehicles, you will need to seek planning permission.”

How to create privacy in your garden

CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:

1. Fencing

Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.

2. Hedges and Plants

Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.

3. Outdoor Curtains

Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.

4. Sound Barriers

A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.
