Tom Cruise appears to be getting ahead of any hiccups that may arise amid the release of his upcoming movie, Digger. He recently made a splashy announcement for Days of Thunder 2, which will also feature Anne Hathaway and be released theatrically in 2028. The announcement serves as reassurance to the industry and his fans that he hasn't given up on IP-driven projects yet, given the signals that his creative pivot with Digger — Cruise is eyeing an Oscar for his performance — was sending to the public. Days of Thunder 2 serves as a sequel to the 1990 original, which itself served as an attempt to recapture the success of Top Gun. The original Days of Thunder grossed around $155 million worldwide, but has gained a cult following at home over the last few decades. At this rate, Cruise could also return in a legacy sequel to another of his classic hits, which happens to be witnessing a resurgence as we speak.
