Back in 2013, Frank Gore got slapped with a $10.5K fine for wearing his socks too low during the NFC Championship game. Why? Well, the NFL has strict uniform rules, and even minor infractions like sock length can lead to hefty penalties. The former 49ers running back justified his wrongdoing, stating that he was more focused on the game and didn’t pay any attention to his socks. But did that make any change?
Absolutely not, as the NFL didn’t let it slide and fined Gore. Fast forward to 2023, and it was Tyreek Hill this time. Roger Goodell’s league fined the Dolphins‘ wideout with a sweet $7k for not wearing socks during a game against the Broncos. The reason, you ask? Well, Hill explained that he skipped the socks because he was getting an IV and didn’t want to miss a play. But again, despite his justification, the NFL enforced the fine.
So, when the former Colorado and the Browns‘ rookie quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, caught his rookie teammate Quinshon Judkins without proper socks at practice, he had to call him out and educate him on the matter. Why? Well, the 23-year-old QB didn’t want the league to impose a fine his teammate. “Bro, put on your socks, this is the NFL,” Shedeur told Judkins over his personal live Twitch stream.
Shedeur Sanders out here saving Quinshon Judkins from future uniform fines like a true QB1 — telling him, “Bro put on your socks, you gotta show the stripes!”
Locker room vibes, leadership, brotherhood, and a little rookie banter — all love between teammates!

But the plot thickened as the rookie running back had no idea what his teammate was talking about, literally. “What are you talking about? I do got socks on, stupid,” Judkins gave back. But nah. Shedeur was smart enough to point out the issue in Judkins’ uniform for the practice, as they weren’t the official team socks. “You can’t wear those, you gotta show the stripes, look,” Shedeur pointed out in the viral clip.
There you go. The RB was shocked on finding out as his mistake as he responded, “Oh sh*t, those.” The funny interaction between the rookies continued as they’re gearing up for the practice session. But lucky for Judkins, as he was alerted by Sanders in the practice session itself. Because get this, the monetary fines for the players upon the violation of the uniform aren’t specified, no doubt.
But looking at Hill’s $7k or Gore’s over $10k fine, let’s just say that Shedeur Sanders saved his rookie teammate from an intentional fine ahead of the 2025 season. Because let’s be real—Quinshon Judkins just inked a four-year, $11 million rookie contract with the Browns. No way he’s looking to blow a chunk of that on a sock mishap.
On the flip side, Sanders is gearing up to compete to make his name in the Browns’ stacked-up QB room.
How does Shedeur Sanders embrace quarterback competition?
At this point, we can say that the Browns’ quarterback room is anything but settled. Why? Well, at the beginning of the 2025 NFL offseason, the Cleveland team was struggling to tackle Deshaun Watson’s situation. Fast forward to now, and their quarterback room is stacked with former first-rounders to veterans alike. We’re talking Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco. Add Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel to it, and you’ve got five QBs ahead of the week 1 showdown.
Now’s the big question: where does Shedeur fit in the team, and how is he tackling the competition? Well, to answer that, the QB recently sat down with Andrew Siciliano on the Browns’ YouTube page in an interview where he shared his thoughts on the QB competition. Siciliano asked, “How do you embrace this competition, not just with Dillon Gabriel, but with the other quarterbacks in what we all agree is a crowded quarterback room?” Sanders’ answer?
“Just focus on myself and what I need to do to get better and any areas, you know, I’m lacking in,” he said. Just like that. And let’s just say the former Colorado quarterback isn’t talking the talk. In fact, during the Browns’ rookie mini-camp, Shedeur Sanders stayed late and worked extra to get better at things that he was lacking in. Sure, his throws weren’t perfect, and he isn’t going to start the 2025 season. But the guy showed a glimpse of leadership.
As the Browns’ insider Brad Stainbrook pointed out on day 1 of the rookie mini-camp, “Yes, it’s just the first day of rookie minicamp—but Shedeur Sanders looked sharper than Dillon Gabriel.” With that being said, Shedeur Sanders has already started gearing up for his rookie season. If his minicamp performance is anything to go by, we might be in for a thrilling rookie season.
