Sharon Stone reflected on her career and resilience at Variety’s Power of Women event on Wednesday, as reported by Variety. The annual ceremony, presented by Lifetime, took place at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills. Stone closed out the night alongside fellow honorees Jennifer Hudson, Pearlena Igbokwe and Melissa McCarthy.

Actor and podcaster Marc Maron introduced Stone before she took the stage. The Academy Award-nominated, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress delivered a speech about breaking barriers in Hollywood. She acknowledged the physical and personal toll of her decades-long career in the industry.

“You have to claw your way to the top,” Stone said during her remarks. She added that women like her broke the glass ceiling for others to benefit from. Stone also described herself as having “gone the distance from being a sex symbol.”

She spoke candidly about the sacrifices that accompanied her rise to prominence. “I did it by keeping both of these tired feet that hurt from wearing four-inch heels on poured concrete floors,” she said. Stone emphasized that she kept those feet “firmly planted on terra firma.”

The actress also touched on patriotism and unity during her speech. “There is no gray in the red, white and blue,” Stone declared. She then connected her sense of power directly to the community of women around her.

“The power that I feel in the power of women, I get because I am standing in the middle of you,” Stone said. She concluded with a statement of solidarity, saying, “I do not stand alone when I stand here.” Multi-hyphenate comedian Iliza Shlesinger hosted the evening’s ceremony. The event also featured the annual Women’s Impact Report, which highlights leaders across the entertainment industry.
